02 Forming

Due to the different structural dimensions of ceramic components, it is necessary to select the appropriate molding method for every ceramic component. Smile provides four methods of forming ceramic to ensure that the ceramic bodies meets the relevant technical requirements of the product.

Processing Technology - Forming

Low Pressure Injection

Low pressure injection is a kind of forming method that uses compressed air to make the heated slurry fill the metal mold, and then solidify it into the required shaped bodies after cooling.

Low pressure injection has the advantages of simple operation, high production efficiency and compact product structure. This method is suitable for forming medium and small bodies with complex shapes.

Dry Pressing

Dry pressing is a kind of molding method that using molding press and metal mold to fill powder material into die cavity and then put pressure to make it into a dense body.

The product made in dry pressing molding has advantages of less residual moisture, no further drying, high production efficiency, less labor, low scrap rate, short production cycle, high density , high dimensional accuracy, and is not easy to deform. The molding method has great restrictions on the shape of the formed products, and has high requirements on the processing quality and precision of the mold, so the mold cost is relatively high. This method is applicable to high-volume parts with high dimensional stability(for example the parts with simple geometric shape like sheet shape).

Isostatic Pressing

Isostatic pressing is the application of the Basque principle, filling the closed container with liquid, using the incompressible properties of the liquid medium and the characteristics of uniform pressure transmission. When the liquid medium is pressed at one place, the pressure will be transmitted to all points of the liquid. And the pressure received by each point is equal.

Isostatic pressing molds have low cost, high production efficiency, and the products produced have uniform structure, high density, small sintering shrinkage, and are not easy to deform, crack and delaminate. This molding method can be used to form large, special-shaped products, slender products, large-sized products and precision-sized products (such as spark plugs, ceramic balls, plungers, vacuum tube shells, etc.)

High Pressure Injection

High pressure injection is a kind of molding method that uses an injection machine to inject slurry into a mold cavity with the shape of a part to form a ceramic body.

High pressure injection has high production efficiency, short molding cycle, high degree of freedom of product geometry, uniform density of all parts of the product, high dimensional accuracy and stable quality. It is suitable for mass production of small, micro, precision and  complex parts and parts with special performance requirements (such as parts for medical machinery, ceramic brackets for tooth correction and restoration, zirconia ceramic inserts and ceramic sleeves for optical communication, insulating ceramic parts and components used in semiconductor and Electronic industries, ceramic knives, ceramic watch chains and ceramic watchcases used in modern life and watch making industry, etc.)
